The
Maiden stone is one of the best examples of Pictish Symbol Stones. Twelve
hundred years ago a Pictish mason completed one of the most spectacular
pieces of sculpture yet seen. Every facet of this tough granite stone
has been decorated with incredible detail. The stone is 3.2 metres tall
and lies in the Garioch, the heart of the Pictish province of Mar and
in the shadow of the Mither Tap Hill Fort of Bennachie.
