....a sacred doorway to the other worlds

This is an image of the much loved Sun Honey Recumbent Stone Circle in Aberdeenshire Scotland. Built 5000 years ago these unique stone circles to Aberdeenshire in Britain with their 'recumbent stone' (horizontal or lying down stone). These always face the SW horizon and the moonset. On either side of the recumbent are the 'flanckers'. These are the largest of the upright stones in the circle. As one moves around the recumbent stone circle the stones decrease in size. The largest Recumbent stone (Old Keig) weighs 55 tons. How did they move them? Sometimes 20 miles away, across rivers and through forests and finally to their resting place up on top of a mid range hill! The 'Recumbent' at Sun Honey has fallen down and can be seen in the background with the tree almost appearing to grow out of it. There are many beautiful cup marks on the recumbent. Many people are drawn every year from all over the world to feel and benefit from the 'atmosphere' that exists in this sacred place, at the base of the Barmekin Hill!
