SACRED DREAMSCAPES

THE aLTERNATIVE PLACES OF N.E. SCOTLAND
Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Ancient Land of the Picts

This is an image looking across the Inschfield Recumbent Stone Circle in Aberdeenshire Scotland. Built 5000 years ago these unique stone circles to Aberdeenshire in Britain with their 'recumbent stone' (horizontal or lying down stone). These always face the SW horizon and the moonset. On either side of the recumbent are the 'flanckers'. These are the largest of the upright stones in the circle. As one moves around the recumbent stone circle the stones decrease in size. The largest Recumbent stone (Old Keig) weighs 55 tons. How did they move them? Sometimes 20 miles away, across rivers and through forests and finally to their resting place up on top of a mid range hill or around the base of a Sacred Hill, such as here. There are three remaining at the base of Dunnideer! Aberdeenshire has the most stone circles in Britain. Once their were more than 150 known circles. How many were there 4000 years ago, before the rise of Egypt. How many moon sets, sun rises, ceremonies and people have these stones been witness to? What do they remember and what can they tell?

On the horizon is possibly one of the most sacred hills to the ancient ones who lived here many many thousands of years ago. From 360 degrees and many miles away one can find sacred sites looking towards the Hill of Dunnideer. It is one of a triad of hills. The Holy Trinity of the Goddess. Christ's Kirk, Flinders and Dunnideer. On the top we also find rings of 'vitrification'. Melted stone walls of granite, that were used as a defensive position. We still do not know how the ancients were able to 'melt' the hardest stone together. Many have tried to discover the secret and all have failed...do you know how? On the very top we find the oldest castle in the NE of Scotland from 13C. Much of it was built from the previously mentioned vitrified walls of unknown date. A dramatic and beautiful landscape that stirs the soul.
